TL;DR
Aqara has introduced the Outdoor Plug H2 EU, an outdoor smart plug offering Thread and Zigbee connectivity, energy monitoring and overload and overheating protection. It comes in standard and RGB versions, but some advanced controls are limited to Zigbee with a compatible Aqara hub; price and availability details are not provided in the source report.
Aqara has introduced the Outdoor Plug H2 EU, a smart plug designed for outdoor electrical devices that supports both Thread and Zigbee. The product adds remote control, automation and energy monitoring for equipment such as garden lights and pumps, with compatibility depending on the user’s smart home setup and selected connection mode.
The plug can be used in Thread mode with compatible Matter smart home platforms, provided the home has a Matter controller and Thread Border Router. The report names Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings as supported platform options when that infrastructure is available. In Zigbee mode, it connects to compatible Aqara hubs, including older models; Aqara hubs can also pass the plug to other Matter ecosystems through Matter bridging.
The device measures real-time power use and can show daily and monthly consumption figures. Changes in power draw can serve as automation triggers, while schedules can be used to run equipment at selected times. Aqara also describes a charging-protection setting that turns the plug off after consumption falls below 3 watts for 30 minutes. The plug’s stated idle consumption is no more than 0.4 watts.
Aqara rates the plug for loads up to 16 amps and 3,680 watts and lists overload and overheating protection. The company says the device disconnects power if it detects an overload or its internal temperature reaches 80°C. A child-lock setting can disable the physical button without preventing app, voice or automation control. The plug has an IP44 rating and an operating temperature range of -20°C to 50°C.
Outdoor Devices Join Matter Setups
The H2 EU targets a gap between indoor smart plugs and outdoor equipment that people may want to control remotely. Garden lighting, pumps and other appliances can be switched or scheduled through a compatible smart home system, while energy readings may help users understand consumption rather than relying only on timers.
Its dual-protocol design gives buyers a choice, but does not make the two modes identical. The source report says some advanced settings and automation features are Zigbee-only at present. People who want Aqara-specific controls may need a compatible hub, while Thread users need the relevant Matter and Thread infrastructure. That distinction matters when comparing the product with a basic plug or planning a setup around a particular platform.
The IP44 rating also sets practical limits. It indicates protection from splashing water and solid objects larger than 1mm, not full waterproofing. Aqara’s stated rating and load limits should guide placement and use; the product is not described as suitable for immersion or high-pressure water exposure.

Two Protocols, Different Features
The Outdoor Plug H2 EU is being offered in standard and RGB versions. The RGB model has a multicolour LED ring around its power button; the standard model has a configurable status indicator. Aqara’s reported feature details say LED configuration and automation are currently available in Zigbee mode with a compatible Aqara hub, while Thread support for those features is planned in a future update.
That planned support is not the same as a feature already available at launch. Buyers choosing Thread should distinguish between the plug’s reported Matter-platform compatibility and the specific LED settings Aqara says are still due to arrive. The source report also says the versions are sold through different distribution channels, so availability may differ by model.
For outdoor installation, the report advises using an appropriately rated connected plug to maintain the intended weather protection. The H2 EU’s IP44 rating is intended for settings such as covered patios, balconies and garden areas exposed to occasional splashes, within the product’s specified operating conditions.
“The plug automatically switches off after detecting power consumption below 3W for 30 minutes.”

Price and Availability Details Missing
The source report does not give a price, release date, or full market-by-market availability. It notes that the standard and RGB models use different distribution channels but does not specify where or when each can be purchased. Aqara’s reported plan to add RGB LED configuration and automation in Thread mode also has no stated release date.
The report does not provide a complete list of which advanced settings are unavailable in Thread mode, beyond noting that certain features are currently exclusive to Zigbee. Buyers should check the product listing and hub compatibility details for their region before purchase; the exact feature set may depend on firmware, hub and platform.

Watch for Retail and Firmware Updates
The next developments to watch are regional listings and pricing, along with further details on which retailers carry each version. Aqara’s planned Thread support for RGB LED configuration and automation will also depend on a future software update, for which the source report gives no timetable.
For now, prospective buyers can compare their existing smart home equipment with the stated requirements: a Matter controller and Thread Border Router for Thread operation, or a compatible Aqara hub for Zigbee features. Product availability, final regional specifications and the timing of the promised Thread update remain unconfirmed in the cited report.

Key Questions
What is the Aqara Outdoor Plug H2 EU?
It is an outdoor smart plug with remote control, automation and energy monitoring, designed for devices such as outdoor lights and pumps.
Does the Outdoor Plug H2 EU work with Matter?
The source report says it can connect to Matter platforms through Thread with a Matter controller and Thread Border Router. In Zigbee mode, a compatible Aqara hub can expose it to other Matter ecosystems through bridging.
What is the difference between Thread and Zigbee modes?
Thread connects through compatible Matter infrastructure. Zigbee uses a compatible Aqara hub and currently provides some advanced settings and automation features that the report says are not available in Thread mode.
Can it be left exposed to rain?
The plug is rated IP44, which covers splashes but does not mean it is waterproof. The report says it is not designed for submersion or high-pressure water jets and notes that a suitably rated connected plug is needed to maintain the intended protection.
How much does the Aqara Outdoor Plug H2 EU cost?
The source report does not state a price or release date. It also does not give complete regional availability details for the standard and RGB versions.
